Mike Stilkey’s new solo exhibit opened this month in Hong Kong. After spending time creating a high-end retail boutique exhibit in the city earlier this year, he decided to take on an even bigger challenge and cover the entire ground floor of Hong Kong’s Times Square, a 12-story major shopping center and office tower complex.
Stilkey is well-known for his site-specific painted book installations. His playful characters and scenes are created in his signature style and he forms them with mixed inks, colored pencils, paint, and lacquer painted across piles and piles of books.
This solo exhibit includes Stilkey’s largest body of work. Many new pieces include a 24-foot tall installation which can be seen from all major floors of the shopping center, as well as other large and small book sculptures, paintings, and paper pieces. More than 200,000 daily visitors will be wowed by Silkey’s incredible talents, a collection which he has dubbed Full of Smiles and Soft Attentions.
