Whimsical Ceramic Sculptures of Tiny Figures Exploring Fantastical Organic Structures

New Hampshire-based artist Megan Bogonovich creates whimsical ceramic sculptures filled with fairytale-like delights and peculiarities. Like Alice tumbling headfirst into the rabbit hole to Wonderland, the stars of Bogonovich’s pieces appear to be eagerly embarking on their own fantastical journeys.

Tiny figurines wearing old-fashioned A-line skirts and kitten heels climb into the openings of colossal, stacked structures that resemble sea anemones, coral reefs, and other organic forms. The sculptures are painted in a variety of bright pastel colors, adding to the charming storybook aesthetic. With the amount of intricate elements and textures to each piece, it’s as easy for the viewer to become lost in the elaborate details as it is for the miniature protagonists to become lost in their curious adventures.

According to the sculptor, her artwork is inspired by rich stories and themes. In her words, “I am always delighted by a story and there are so many plotslines to follow. Novels, Netflix, newspapers, podcasts, love lifes, history, family drama, political antics, gossip. These plots bring characters, costumes and environments. They interact. They repeat. Coming of age and Falling in love are both timeless themes. They are worthy of pop songs and they are worthy of porcelain figurines.”
