Adventure photographer Matt Horspool is a natural explorer. Born in South Korea and raised in rural New South Wales, the award-winning freelancer has stepped foot in 43 countries across 6 continents, with a tour across South America among his most memorable. In addition to snapping photos from the ground, Horspool also documents his dreamy backpacking travels from above.
Shot from drones, hot air balloons, and other sky-high methods, Horspool’s aerial landscape photos offer an exciting chance to see the world from a new perspective. His body of work showcases a range of subjects, from seaside cities and mountain villages to natural pools and twisting tributaries.
Perhaps the most alluring aspect of his photographs is their mysterious atmosphere. In many shots, moody blankets of fog and mist circle and shroud the tranquil scenery. This is primarily because Horspool prefers shooting in the morning, when he feels less like a tourist and more like a local. “It’s always the best time to explore a city, as there are literally no tourists or locals about,” he divulges. “The place is yours.”
If you like what you see, you’re in luck. Fortunately, it seems we can expect even more jaw-dropping shots to grace his Instagram page, as the ever-ambitious adventurer “does not plan on stopping anytime soon.”
