Photographer Mark Meyer lives in a 100-year old log cabin in Alaska. Every morning when he wakes up, he first sees a single-paned window at the foot of his bed. As the weather outside changes with the seasons, the surface of the window becomes a work of art, frosting over with ice, dripping wet with rainwater, and occasionally fogging up with steam during the summer.
An Alaska Window is Meyer’s series of minimalist photographs that focus on the details of this single window within his home. As the window changes, the artist captures the different moments from one simple perspective. He says, “It has gradually turned into a minimalist personal project that’s become a reminder to myself that even the simplest things are interesting if you pay attention. I’ve found it to be good way to start each day, an exercise in seeing and visually exploring a single subject and noticing how it gradually changes over time.”
