On Saturday, April 22, thousands of people gathered to advocate for science. Coinciding with Earth Day, the March for Science was held in Washington, D.C. and featured speakers and protesters who voiced their concerns for President Trump’s stances on issues like climate change, as well as his administration’s general hostility towards evidence-based policies. In support of this massive event, there were satellite marches throughout the world—even as far away as the Antarctic!
Similar to the Women’s March, supporters of science showed up ready with clever and creative signage. Boasting delightfully nerdy science-themed puns, witty one-liners, and colorful imagery, the protest signs were in defense of, and celebration of, the diverse field. The most common motif highlighted the devastating effects that rising global temperatures have had (and will continue to have) on our planet. While often humorous, the signs are poignant and remind us that we need to act now to ensure the future remains green.
The March for Science had people around the world speaking up for science. Many crafted clever and creative signs to amplify their voice. Here are some of our favorites.
