We have come across Makoto Tojiki’s impressive LED light sculptures before and, now, the Japanese artist and designer once again inspires us with his new piece, Hope and Dream. The artist created this piece for luxury beauty brand Cl de Peau Beaut, a place dedicated to beauty intertwined with a respect for the earth and its resources. The installation is present at the brand’s 30th anniversary celebration, an exhibition called L’art de la Radiance, at Artistree in Island East, Hong Kong.
Tojiki is known for using light as his primary medium to explore how light and shadow can be controlled. He says his creative process involves, “breaking down the light and the shadow to capture the essence of their symbiosis resulting in fleeting images that are as ephemeral and enigmatic as shadow itself.”
Surrounded by the sound of birds chirping, the piece consists of a young girl releasing a bird from her hands, and the flickering, twinkling light of the bird as it flutters away into the dark space of the gallery.
