Designer Lucy Litman celebrates the beautiful colors found in the world by matching food items with their Pantone swatches. For months now, the creative has been pairing savory and sweet treats with their solid-colored counterparts in an ongoing series. Using the hashtag #pantoneposts, Litman began the visual project with cereal–Fruit Loops, in particular. It served as a meditative process for clearing her mind after stressful work days. Upon moving to California, however, she expanded her creative endeavors as she found herself in the midst of a greater variety of colorful produce.
In an interview with Hello Giggles, Litman excitedly explains how easy it is to find fruits, vegetables, and snacks in so many colors: “It’s really not difficult! Nature is pretty amazing and gives us foods of every color and shade! What amazes me is the variety within each type of food – a lime can be about a dozen different colors depending on the type and how ripe it is.”
As for matching, the artist says, “My process is putting all of the foods on a baking tray, sitting by my window for natural light, and matching them one by one. It usually takes about 15 minutes to get the right colors.” And, don’t worry about any food going to waste, because Litman eats all of the food after!
