Construction is moving forward with Zaha Hadid Architects‘ mixed-use Leeza Soho tower in Beijing. The firm recently released stunning black and white photographs of the work in progress, as they move toward the late-2018 completion date. The images show the construction of the atrium as the building soars toward reaching its full 679-foot (207-meter) height next month.

In fact, once completed, the atrium will hold the record as the world’s highest, as it extends up 623 feet (190 meters) to connect the two wavy halves of the building. The atrium actually twists as it moves upward, dynamically creeping toward the higher floors on an east-west axis.

“The atrium’s ‘twist’ allows natural light and views of the city from the center of all floors of Leeza Soho,” shares the firm. “Sky bridges on structural rings at each refuge/MEP level and a double-insulated glass façade unite the two halves of the tower together within a single cohesive envelope.”

The 46-storey building will hold a mix of offices and shops and was designed by Zaha Hadid before her untimely death. The skyscraper will anchor the new Lize Financial Business District in southwest Beijing. It’s one of four projects that the firm has designed for client Soho China, including the Sky Soho in Shanghai.

When the atrium of Beijing’s Leeza Soho is complete, it will surpass the Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai at the world’s highest.
