Magical Photos of Moscow Covered in Christmas Lights and Snow

Although Russian winters are famously freezing, Moscow-based photographer Kristina Makeeva believes that the most wonderful time of the year to visit the buzzing capital city is the holiday season. In true Christmas spirit, she often braves the cold to capture snowy shots of its sparkling decorations, festive fireworks, and holly jolly animal friends.

While Makeeva photographs most aspects of its merry and bright makeover, she pays special attention to the dancing snow—in particular, the way that Moscow’s many Christmas lights illuminate it. “In our city there are a lot of lights that are often lit up all night,” Makeeva explains on Bored Panda. “So those nights in Moscow, when it is snowing, the atmosphere is really fabulous.” Whether a couple cuddling to stay warm, an antler-clad husky enjoying the cold, or a not-so-enthused cat perched in front of the famous Kremlin, the lit-up snow turns any scene into a winter wonderland.

In addition to Moscow’s high-spirited holiday season, Makeeva also enjoys photographing landscapes across Europe, dreamy portraits, and fairytale-like shots of her furry friends. You can see her enchanting oeuvre on her 500px page. Just be prepared to experience some wanderlust!
