This historical ceramic facility has come up with a brilliant plan to get rid of some of their overwhelming stock supply: transform their warehouse into a place where visitors can participate in a treasure hunt for goodies. Since 1865, the Kouraku Kiln has been producing fine quality ceramics in Arita, a town located in Saga Prefecture, Japan. The area is known for production of Arita porcelain, one of the traditional handicrafts of Japan. This particular shop has a vast collection of delicately painted ceramic and porcelain items that has gotten a little out of hand–some workers have to use a bicycle to get around the warehouse.
So, if digging through thousands of traditional Japanese ceramic pieces to find the perfect ones sounds like a fun time, make a reservation and get started. For either 5,000 or 10,000 yen ($44-88 USD), guests get to have a tour of the facility and participate in a 90-minute treasure hunt through the expansive collection. The pricier option gives visitors access to a special selection of items, but in either scenario, visitors get to home with as many hand-picked treasures as they can fit in the provided basket.
