Beautiful Fine Art Photos of Everyday Dogs

Over the last five years, we’ve featured our fair share of dog portraits from the hilarious to the heartbreaking. Today, we want to introduce you to Maryland-based fine art photographer Katherine Carver. Her first dog, Biscuit, a rescue Shetland Sheepdog, awakened her desire to photograph dogs in a different way, one that centered on their unique markings that made each of them stand out as an individual.

“My goal is to create layered and didactic images recording the unique personalities and signature physical attributes of the dogs that I photograph,” she tells us. “The simple black backgrounds are a constant in my black and white series, creating continuity, while simultaneously maintaining each individual dog as the main focal point.”

The dogs featured in her black and white series are shelter dogs, dogs from commissions and her recently deceased dog Biscuit. “I hope the collective images take the viewer through an emotional journey, and it is my goal that the viewer experiences and feels each dog in my work,” shes says.

Love how these everyday dogs look so regal.
