Japan Has Ice Cream Shaped Like Samurai Swords as a Dangerously Delicious Treat

Japan’s unique take on sweet treats consistently captures our attention, from inventive baked goodsedible coffee cups, and now—thanks to one particularly cutting-edge company in Seki—ice cream shaped like Samurai swords. Called Katana Ice, these one-of-a-kind popsicles are inspired by traditional weaponry and are dangerously delicious.

Based on the inventive idea of a young student, this Japanese ice cream has been adopted by a local confectioner. Each katana is composed of three parts: a slow-melting ice cream blade, a chocolate-covered cookie hand-guard, and an easy-to-grip and realistically detailed plastic handle.

Currently, Katana Ice comes in two flavors: koshian red bean paste and yuzu citrus. In both cases, the ice cream is ingeniously dusted with kuzuko, a starch powder that delays the thawing process and preserves the sweet’s sword-like integrity. Available at Seki’s well-known Hamono Cutlery Festival in October, each tasty weapon will cost around 1,000 yen ($9)—though the food fight that’s sure to follow is priceless!
