Ethereal Portraits of People in Bubbles

Kingston, NY-based photographer Julianne Swartz manages to capture portraits of people as silhouetted reflections in giant, soapy bubbles. The artistic photographer’s Bubble Portraits series features a number of magnificent shots that exude a simultaneous strength and fragility as the translucent orbs drift through the air and daintily sit atop bodies of water.

The round, watery pockets of air present a delicate persistence, their dreamy forms retaining their spectacular spherical shape all while threatening to burst at any moment. Like a photograph, the reflected silhouettes of these people in a bubble is a single moment frozen in time. There’s an ethereal weightlessness about each portrait with a imminent disappearance that makes each fleeting moment all the more precious. The material’s natural light refraction also adds a magical quality to each globular portrait that further accentuates the etherealness of the series.
