Vintage Fabric Bird Models Take Flight in Mirror Dioramas

Josephine Hague’s colorful cloth-covered bird models roost on mirrors and lend a whimsical air to their surroundings. The Somerset-based artist comprises her birds of Japanese and vintage floral fabric strips, resulting in a cheerful patchwork of vibrant textures and hues. In most pieces, a mirror forms the backdrop for the birds’ habitat of paper flowers and delicate wooden branches.

Hague alighted upon this project when she was commissioned to assemble a window display for London-based luxury leather designer Bill Amberg. Her artistic background is rooted mainly in prop design and animation model making. With attention to miniscule details and theatrical aesthetics, Hague’s variety of skills take flight in this series.
