Artist John Turck creates otherworldly collages by hand that seamlessly blend elements from pop culture, nature, and architecture. “Most of my time is spent collecting collage materials from books and magazines. I’ll cut them up in advance, and then file them away,” Turck told Castle Foundations. “I don’t always have a concept in mind when I start, usually I’ll lay out a few key images that I’d like to work with for the day, and then I’ll play around with different combinations until I find what I feel will be the absolute best fit.”
The collage artist’s main goal is to design pieces that look as if they were digitally created in Photoshop. Due to his traditional process, the handmade, slightly vintage-looking nature of each collage evokes a distinct sense of nostalgia. As various worlds come together in the timeless works of art, viewers are able to feel as though they are part of a surreal world filled with vivid colors, pop art, captivating shapes, and unusual symbols that are sure to make onlookers stop and stare.
