The decision to have children or not is a personal one. However, for those who live in the spotlight, particularly women, being childless often attracts unwanted attention from the media. Last year, Jennifer Aniston revealed that she struggled with fertility issues throughout her 30s and 40s, resorting to numerous different treatments to try and achieve pregnancy. Despite it being a private matter, she was accused by different publications of not wanting children, leading to the end of her relationships, including her marriage to Brad Pitt. Now 54, Aniston is in a better place and adds that she receives plenty of support from her friends. Actor Adam Sandler and his wife Jackie send Aniston flowers every Mother’s Day to express their support.
“I would say my late 30s, 40s, I’d gone through really hard sh*t, and if it wasn’t for going through that, I would’ve never become who I was meant to be,” Aniston says. “I was trying to get pregnant. It was a challenging road for me, the baby-making road.” She further explains that she went through IVF to increase her chances and drank Chinese teas that are said to increase fertility. Although she wishes that she knew enough to freeze her eggs, she’s also at peace with herself now, and has “zero regrets.”
Childless women are frequently accused of being selfish and wanting to put their careers above having a family. Aniston quietly lived through the accusations for years but eventually spoke her mind in an op-ed she wrote in 2016. “For the record, I am not pregnant. What I am is fed up. I’m fed up with the sport-like scrutiny and body shaming that occurs daily under the guise of ‘journalism,’ the ‘First Amendment,’ and ‘celebrity news,’” she said at the time. “The objectification and scrutiny we put women through is absurd and disturbing.” The piece was written during her marriage with actor Justin Theroux, a relationship that was also constantly plagued by speculation about whether they were going to have kids and invasive photos of a possible “baby bump.”
After Aniston opened up to the public about her fertility issues, many online rallied around her and offered support. There were numerous people who insisted that the media owed her an apology. “Tabloids FOR YEARS made up that she was pregnant and after this all time she never became pregnant because she couldn’t JENNIFER ANISTON DESERVES AN APOLOGY,” one person tweeted, also sharing a collage of the dozens of magazine covers which focused on Aniston’s body and possible pregnancy.
Fortunately, Aniston has supportive fans as well as good friends to help her through difficult periods of her life. She befriended Adam Sandler in her 20s, and the two of remained close ever since, even starring in multiple films together. Despite never being able to conceive, Sandler and his wife Jackie send flowers to Aniston every Mother’s Day in a touching gesture of friendship.
In 2022, Jennifer opened up about her struggle with fertility issues throughout her 30s and 40s.

She added that being vilified by the media made dealing with her private fertility struggle even more challenging.
