Japan’s Minimal Apartment Tower Resembles a White Ship

Created by Japanese firm Eastern Design Office, the Step Tower is described as “a stark white ship that sails in the middle of the bustling sea of colors.” The new residential building is located in Ibaraki-city within Osaka, Japan and is aiming to usher in a new wave of housing to better suit the city’s growing industry.

This 10-story high apartment complex has a simple, clean, and minimal design that makes it stand out from its neighboring structures. A unique feature to the Step Tower is the expanding slits on its corner facade that offers residents a better view of the city the higher up they go. They create an interesting visual from any view and will remind you of a spine, looking as if they’re the Tower’s immense vertebra. One-room apartments are found on the 2nd to 4th floors while family-style accommodations are on the 5th through 10th floors. Currently, there is no word on how much it would cost to live in this simple but beautiful building.
