Perfectly Timed Splashes of Liquid Look Like Potted Flowers

Milwaukee-based photographer Jack Long has mastered the art of splash photography. By calculating and catching the exact moment a dollop of paint bounces, ripples, explodes, and blooms into a precise form, Long is able to compose brilliant liquid flowers. We’ve seen similar work in the past, one that even mimics a rose, but nothing quite as multilayered and colored as these potted flowers from the photographer’s Vessels and Blooms series.

While the flowers themselves are remarkable, it’s Long’s ability to produce floral and botanic figures emerging from within flowerpots that blows our minds. As if that wasn’t enough, Long assures viewers that his images are one-shots that are not doctored. He says, “All of my images, unless otherwise noted are single capture events. I do not use photoshop to create composited images. What you see is what occurred in that single exposure.”
