Food and art go hand-in-hand, and a cake by Intricate Icing Cake Designs proves just how incredible this combination can look while also throwing a little science in the mix. Baker Rachael Teufel created a unique dessert that exposes a gorgeous surprise beneath its surface–an amethyst geode! While it looks undeniably realistic, everything about this astonishing cake is edible.
Teufel used granulated sugar and rock candy to craft the vibrant geode and create the illusion of its uneven surface and depth. Multicolored modeling chocolate helped set the geode in the fondant, and gold leaf was added as a final touch. All told, it took Teufel about 16 hours to create the cake, in addition to several hours of pre-planning.
The stunning result was displayed during a launch party for the company First Look Events and venue called Moss Denver. But if the enthusiastic response is any indication, Teufel will probably have many more multi-faceted geode cakes to create in her future!
