Next time you travel to Jukkasjrvi, Sweden, pack your long-johns and stay the night at this giant ice and snow hotel! Sitting alongside the Torne river, ICEHOTEL is the world’s largest hotel–about 5,500 square meters–made out of ice and snow and has an indoor temperature of -5C. The hotel is constructed each year to serve as both creative accommodations as well as a giant work of art.
As the guests arrive in early December, the building process continues and sections of the hotel continue to be built out of snow and giant blocks of ice. This year, French artist and designer Antoine Weygand and architect Roland Toupet were brought in to design Room 339, dubbed “Diamond Genesis.” Guests can enjoy the luxurious design of this frosty room, which includes a mattress set upon a bed of chiseled ice, geometric patterns carved into the walls, and illuminated, diamond-shaped ice sculptures on the floor.
The hotel suggests that you spend just one night in the cold accommodations, during which, “your luggage will be stored in a locked luggage room during your stay. If you bring it to your room, it will freeze during the night.” Then, enjoy the remainder of your time in the warm accommodations that are connected to the ice hotel.
