Wearing a hijab might seem like it’d make cosplay quite difficult, but as Miisa MHC shows, it’s no challenge with a little creativity. The 21-year-old from Perlis, Malaysia faithfully captures the essence of different Japanese anime characters by trading conventional wigs for an array of colorful head coverings.

Miisa isn’t the only pop culture-loving woman to experiment with costuming her hijab. Last year, Malaysian makeup artist Saraswati wowed us with her interpretations of Disney princesses wearing hijab. To mimic the look of their hair, she shaped and accessorized each of her coverings in the same way she would a wig. Miisa styles her hijab in a similar fashion. By gathering, twisting, and adding things like ears and bows, she produces instantly recognizable anime cosplay. It proves that, sometimes, constraints to a project or problem can lead to fantastic creative solutions.

Miisa shares her looks on her Instagram. Check out her latest tributes to Naruto, Sailor Moon, and Adventure Time, below.
