“Menna” Trend Has Men Wearing Beautifully Complex Henna Designs All Over Their Bodies

The art of henna—a practice used to adorn bodies with decorative patterning—is often associated with women. It’s famously used in weddings, seen on brides for good luck as they’re about to say “I do.” There are, however, men who choose to have this same practice applied to their skin. Nicknamed menna, these same complex designs reach farther than the typical feet or hands—they travel across chests and arms, around the collarbone and down the back.

Menna might seem like an unusual trend, but Sabreena Haque of Ritual By Design remarks that men are actively seeking these temporary designs on their skin. In an Instagram post, she shares a picture of herself applying henna to a smiling client. “Yes… Men get henna too,” she wrote. “#TBT to the Further Future music festival where I had just as many male clients as female.”
