Earlier this year, guinea pigs Estella and Pip were found on the side of the road in California’s Calaveras Country. They were then dropped off at an animal shelter, which is where caretakers noticed that Estella’s back was broken–most probably due to the previous owner squeezing her too hard. This devastating circumstance left the guinea pig disabled, with no control over her lower body. What’s even worse is that she had to live for an entire month without pain medication before being sent to Harvest Home. At this new animal sanctuary, workers wanted to do all they could to help Estella live a peaceful life, which is why they started a Facebook fundraiser for the tiny critter to have her very own wheelchair.
Before long, Harvest Home raised enough money for Estella’s custom wheelchair. “The chair is now built but we need to make a few more adjustments for her to ride. The wheelchair is designed as an exercise mechanism… to increase her enrichment and activity level,” sanctuary manager Christine Morrissey told The Huffington Post. “Today, she is our treasured comeback kid. We are so inspired by her relentless resiliency and infectious positivity.”
