Known for their swirling patterns and shimmering pops of gold, the paintings of Gustav Klimt are among modern art’s most recognizable masterpieces. Given the significance of these glittering works, it comes as no surprise that Klimt has been deemed an Art History Hero by Today Is Art Day.
Like all action figures in this ever-growing series, the pocket-sized painter comes with clever accoutrements, including Katze, his beloved black-and-white cat. He also dons his well-known hairdo and wears his signature ensemble: simple sandals and an indigo painter’s smock adorned with embroidered white epaulettes. This garment, however, is extra special, as it can be decorated with dazzling decals inspired by Klimt’s own work.
In addition to these exquisite accents, each cartoon-y Klimt comes with a tiny easel and an eclectic selection of works of art from his Golden Phase. These include Death and Life, Rosebushes under the Trees, Portrait of Adele Bloch–Bauer I, and, of course, The Kiss, his most famous gilded painting.
Along with a trio of Old Masters and fellow modern painters like Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh, René Magritte, Salvador Dali, and Frida Kahlo, Today Is Art Day hopes that Klimt will help them “make art and art history more fun”—one unconventional action figure at a time.
