Here at My Modern Met, we’re big fans of cleverly animated gifs, so we were more than excited when we saw that Saatchi Art and Saatchi Gallery have teamed up with Google+ to create the inaugural Motion Photography Prize. Photographers from all over the world are invited to submit one motion photo (in .GIF format) in any or all of six categories, three of which have been announced so far – Landscape, Lifestyle and Action. You don’t have to create your own gifs using software like Photoshop, rather, you can sign into Google+, upload between 5 to 50 stills and then let Google+ do the rest.
The six finalists will receive a trip for two to London to attend a private viewing at the Saatchi Gallery and the overall winner will receive a trip of a lifetime with the photographer/filmmaker of their choice! So who’s judging? They’re artist names you may recognize like Tracey Emin, Shezad Dawood and Cindy Sherman, as well as filmmaker Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge!).
“If a picture can tell a thousand words, motion photography can tell a whole story. We’re excited about enabling anybody with a smartphone to tell their story in a new creative way,” says Cristian Cussen, Head of Marketing at Google+.
You can view the entries on Tumblr and Pinterest. Now, here are some of our favorites.
