Beautiful Field of 9,000 Synchronized Lights

While seeing 9,000 lights in a field would stop anyone in their tracks, watching them change color and intensity all at the same time would, no doubt, qualify it as a spectacle. Italian-born artist Giancarlo Neri recently brought his installation Maximum Silence to Rio de Janeiro. He programmed the lights into two stages. For five minutes, the lights all shine as one, changing color from blue, to red, to yellow, to green. Then, the pattern breaks free and all you see is a field of rainbow colored balls.

According to The Creators Project, “Neri came up with the idea when his wife bought a lamp from IKEA and was surprised when the bulbs in the box were coloured instead of white, as she had expected.”

Watch the video, below, to be see the installation when it was performed for the first time back in 2007 in Rome.
