Just a short few months ago, we fawned over Today is Art Day‘s cute and quirky Van Gogh action figure. Following the success of the figurine’s Kickstarter campaign, the quirky company has introduced a new art-inspired doll to the mix: a teeny-tiny Frida Kahlo.
Like the Van Gogh model, the Frida figurine stands at 5 inches tall. Showcasing the company’s meticulous attention to detail, the action figure features eccentric accessories characteristic of the artist. On her head, she wears a rose-scented flower headband. On her back, a monkey companion holds on tight. And, on her chest, a detachable “surrealist heart” (undoubtedly inspired by her iconic self-portrait, The Two Fridas) adorns her shawl.
Clearly, an ample amount of care and consideration has gone into capturing an apt likeness of the Mexican artist. Therefore, it is not surprising to learn that, when dreaming up the project, Today is Art Day worked closely with the Frida Kahlo Corporation. “We’re dedicated to educating, sharing and preserving Frida Kahlo’s art, image and legacy,” Beatriz Alvarado, the corporation’s head of international affairs, says in the figurine’s official press release. “This Frida Kahlo action figure project aligns with our mission and so we choose to support it.”
Until June 7, the tiny toy will be featured and funded on Kickstarter. For $30.00, you can get ahold of your own spirited figurine—complete with art historically-accurate attachments. As a bonus, your new companion will also come in clever packaging covered in Frida facts and miniature masterpieces. We’re sold!
