Small Delicate Petals Arranged Into Beautiful Floral Paintings

While working on his exploding flowers series, Singapore-based photographer Fong Qi Wei began to discover the natural beauty held within the individual components of a full flower. The artist was inspired to create this series of Floral Paintings in which he combined the tiny, delicate elements into playful shapes like a pink flamingo with its wings spread wide or butterflies bursting into life.

The beautiful shapes are composed with petals from all kinds of flowers including roses, hydrangeas, lilies, aster, and chrysanthemums. He completes each composition entirely by hand, carefully placing the petals in organized patterns to form his desired shapes. As a result, the paintings are filled with interesting texture and a unique depth not conveyed in flatter paintings and illustrations.

The engaging images are reminiscent of Impressionist techniques and Wei even created a sunflower composition mimicking the style of Van Gogh. He says, “While an artist can produce work that engages a tiny slice of humanity, great works of art are the ones which communicate universal themes that are applicable worldwide.”
