World-renowned artist Yayoi Kusama has officially launched a touring exhibition around Europe. Riehen, Switzerland, a city with deep ties to contemporary art, gets the honor of being the first stop, with Fondation Beyeler being the first Swiss museum to host a retrospective exhibit devoted to Kusama’s revolutionary work.

The self-titled Kusama retrospective is a testament to the global, cross-generational reach of the artist, featuring works brought from eight different countries. Conceived via a close collaboration between the museum, the artist, and her studio, the exhibit will feature over 300 artworks, spanning from her earliest drawings to soaring new experiments. This includes 130 pieces that have never been seen in Europe, as well as new works produced specifically for this retrospective.

“Through more than 70 years of production, Kusama has consistently defied categorization,” writes the museum. “Her practice spans a rich array of media—painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, performance, collage, fashion, literature, and film—making her one of the most versatile and influential artists of our time. The exhibition foregrounds key periods of radical invention, offering a dynamic portrait of an artist who continues to reshape our understanding of art and experience.”

Among the works that guests will be able to see are her famous infinity nets and accumulation sculptures, Narcissus Garden, 1966/2025, and Infinity Mirrored Room – Illusion Inside the Heart, 2025. The exhibition will also feature a brand-new bespoke Infinity Mirror Room and immersive environments made especially for this exhibition.

“The exhibition offers a multilayered encounter with an artist whose work continues to challenge perception, provoke thought, and awaken feeling,” the museum shares. “It is a celebration of Kusama’s boundless imagination and an invitation to reflect on the infinite within ourselves.”

The Yayoi Kusama retrospective is currently on display at Fondation Beyeler until January 25, 2026. To get tickets and learn more, visit the Fondation Beyeler website.
