While some Olympic athletes are world-famous stars with a large following and lucrative endorsement deals, many of them can only get there by working two or three jobs, or with the help of sponsors. After learning this, rapper Flavor Flav stepped in to help the U.S. women’s water polo team. Since then, he has vouched to support athletes in need—a promise he decided to uphold when he heard about the struggles discus thrower Veronica Fraley was facing.

Fraley arrived in Paris before the opening ceremony and has been practicing in the French capital since, awaiting her competition. However, something worrying took her mind off the competition. “I compete in the Olympic Games TOMORROW and can’t even pay my rent,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Since the school year was done for the summer, she wouldn’t get a full rent payment. “My school only sent about 75% of my rent while they pay football players (who haven’t won anything) enough to buy new cars and houses,” she continues in her tweet.

Despite being busy around Paris supporting Team USA, Flavor Flav saw her post and reached out. “I gotchu,,, DM me and I’ll send payment TODAY so you don’t have to worry bout it TOMORROW,,, and imma be rooting for ya tomorrow LETZ GO,!!!” the generous rapper replied.

Alexis Ohanian, American entrepreneur and husband of Serena Williams, also jumped in with a reply tweet offering to split the cost with Flavor Flav.

Once that worry was off her mind, Fraley promised to give a great performance the next day. “THANK YOU & @FlavorFlav
SO MUCH,” the athlete wrote. “This makes every difference in the WORLD & I hope to represent team USA well this week.”

Fraley also explained that she wasn’t angry with her school, Vanderbilt University, but the broken system that put her in that position in the first place. “Thanks for the supporting messages but I want to clarify my irritation isn’t with the school itself,” she explains, “mainly the rules that bar me from making the amount I’m WORTH as a collegiate athlete such as NIL which favors popularity over performance. that’s all I’m sayin. Wish me luck tm!”

Fraley is scheduled to compete in the Group B of the Discus throw qualification rounds. Since she’s ranked #19 best in the world, she’s certain to give a great performance. With a little boost, she could even improve her chances and be on the lookout for a medal. As Flavor Flav wrote, “Ya never know how one act of kindness can change someone’s life.”
