Using stark, black ink and fine lines, Portland-based tattooist A-B M creates strikingly detailed works of body art. Ranging in scale and subject matter, each illustrative tattoo exhibits A-B M’s artistic background and dedicated approach to the craft.
While motifs explored by A-B M vary, most pieces depict an interest in expressive and energetic animals—both real and imaginary. In addition to creatures like hares, wolves, and even dragons, the artist also dabbles in plant portrayals, portraiture, and surreal scenes. Regardless of selected subject matter, each fine line tattoo is illustrated only in black, glycerin-based ink. On top of preferring such ink for its inherently versatile nature, A-B M uses this medium as a way to “integrate this intimate art form into a sustainable practice”—an important aspect of the artist’s art and role at Tenderfoot Studio.
As a self-described interdisciplinary artist, A-B M also creates works on paper (including drawings, flyers, comics, and prints) and sculptures. You can see more of the artist’s diverse portfolio here, and purchase your own ceramic, paper, and plastic goodies at his online shop.
