With the new year right around the corner, there’s an important decision to be made. What calendar will you choose for 2019? The Modern Ferret has created a delightful wall calendar that greets each month with a different photograph of a dapper ferret (or ferrets). Aptly called Ferrets, the 12 adorable images feature portraits of the creatures as they don tiny costumes against colorful backdrops.
Industrial designers Haley Pearson and Channing Shattuck are behind The Modern Ferret. Their fur babies, named Moose, Newt, and Albert, shine as the stars of the calendar, and they have no problem being extremely photogenic by serving looks as captivating as Blue Steel. Pearson has crafted their outfits to correspond to the holidays and seasons, too. April, the month of Easter, features Moose donning bunny ears and cradling a painted egg. December is similarly festive with Albert wearing a Santa hat and ostentatious Christmas sweater.
The Ferrets calendar began in 2014 after the couple adopted Moose. Aside from showing off the adorable creatures, the calendar also helps to change the often-negative public perception of ferrets. “There are a lot of misconceptions out there about ferrets,” Pearson explains. “People think that they bite, or that they smell. There’s also this perception that ferrets are like rats or that they’re rodents which isn’t true. In fact, they are predatory animals. Their closest wild relative is actually the European Polecat. They make such sweet pets.”
The calendar comes available in two large sizes: 11 inches by 17 inches and 19 inches by 27 inches. It’s now available through The Modern Ferret Etsy, where a portion of the proceeds helps to educate people on these sweet creatures.
