Interactive Music List Features 1,387 Genres for Your Endless Listening Pleasure

What kind of music do you feel like listening to? Perhaps some bubblegum dance or Japanese standards, maybe even some chamber pop? With the website Every Noise at Once, you can effortlessly scroll through 1,387 genres, jamming to your favorite tunes while also discovering something fresh and exciting for your ears. The site has everything you could think of, from German punk music and French hip hop to Christian metal and Indonesian pop.

Every Noise at Once was created using data that’s tracked and analyzed by The Echo Nest. To produce this massive list, it uses an algorithmically-generated, readability-adjusted scatter-plot of the musical genre-space. After compiling these categories, they were arranged into a cloud-like map. As you scroll down the page, different types of music flow into one another, their link colors shifting from a lilac purple to blue-green hues. This helps to comprehend the different genres, as does the size of text. General, less distinct categories like “classic rock” appear larger, while the more nuanced subgenres are smaller.

The front page of Every Noise at Once is just the beginning. Click on any of the genres to see additional maps that break down the categories into individual artists and bands. With this complex web, you can spend hours finding new music to love. And best of all, this is an ongoing project, so there will be even more to hear as time goes on.

It can be hard to chose what to listen to first…

…but click on any of the links and you’ll start to go down a music rabbit hole:
