103-Year-Old Grandma Celebrates Birthday with a Tattoo

Evelyn Kottman turned 103 years old this year and decided to celebrate her birthday by going to a casino, feasting at an all-you-can-eat buffet, and getting a tattoo! Accompanied by her grandkids, the centenarian didn’t hold back one bit. Even at the casino, she wasn’t the typical old bitty at the slots. Her granddaughter Jennifer shares on Reddit that Evelyn was seated at the roulette table, bet everything (all $103) on black, and actually won!

Taking her winnings, the awesome grandma proceeded to eat plate after plate of food and then fill in a tattoo on her arm. Having first gotten the outline done when she turned 100 years old, Evelyn mustered up the courage to finish it off this year with the help of tattoo artist Chad Ronilo at Lucky Devil Tattoo in Seattle.

As to whether it was a safe and healthy choice for Evelyn to get a tattoo at her age, Jennifer says she got the okay from her doctor and dermatologist. On top of that, her granddaughter adds, “It’s pretty harmless in that it only punctures the surface of the skin. And assuming the place is clean, sterile and takes the usual precautions, low risk. But speaking to Gram/Evelyn’s overall health condition, she’s built like a truck. It will take a lot more than a little tattoo.” Evelyn, who is clearly in remarkable shape for her age, has Redditors wondering “What’s her secret?” Jennifer says, “If you ask her that she answers one of two ways: ‘meat and potatoes’ or ‘YOLO.’”

The hilariously adventurous grandmother has such a great sense of humor and vigor for life (made obvious by her action packed birthday this year), she says in an AMA: “I’ve always been adventurous, but hitting the 100 mark really makes you want to take advantage of life. So I’ve been doing things I never thought I’d be doing — like a tattoo! I love my stupid grandkids.” While it may seem like this year can’t be topped, her granddaughter clues everyone in on the festivities to come by teasing, “Keep it a secret, but next year it’s Vegas to see the Thunder Down Under.”
