Colored Pencil Drawings Playfully Critique American Culture

LA-based artist Eric Yahnker uses colored pencils to produce his incredibly detailed large-scale illustrations that poke fun at contemporary American culture. The artist has no limits to the content that he will address in his visual creations, from President Obama peering out the window at Miley Cyrus on a wrecking ball to swimsuit-wearing Budweiser girls who seem to have been run over by tire tracks.

His solo exhibition, Sticks & Drones, recently opened at London’s Paradise Row in the UK and, according to the gallery website, the collection “strives to navigate the muddy, frequently strained gulf between the reception of recent US affairs at home and abroad.” Through his work, Yahnker targets specific political leaders and also explores the sexually suggestive references contained within the majority of advertising across the United States. The elements of the exhibit work nicely together to present Yahnker’s humorous approach to American culture.

The exhibit is currently on display and will be on view through June 28, 2014.
