A vibrant, flowing rainbow could be seen cascading across Shinjuku Central Park in this colorful installation by French architect and designer Emmanuelle Moureaux. The first installation of the project, entitled 100 Colors, was initially conceived with paper for an interior space during the 2013 Shinjuki Creators Festa. This year for the event, the artist went outdoors to capture a new kind of energy from the blowing winds.
For this second installation, Moureaux hand-dyed 1,875 pieces of fabric and hung them vertically from above in layers of textured color. The piece was set high off the ground so that it would move with the breeze and so that passers-by could walk underneath and find themselves consumed by the various hues.
The artist explains, “Valuing the emotion inspired from Tokyo, I want to show the beauty of colors to the fullest extent. I also wish to share the feeling of being surrounded by overflowing colors by exhibiting 100 colors, here in the middle of Tokyo.”
