Embroidered Animal Portraits Crafted with Meticulous Impressionist-Style Stitches

Inspired by creatures both large and small, artist Emillie Ferris embroiders their delicate portraits onto fabric. The gorgeous hoop art features detailed depictions of birds, insects, foxes, deer, and more, realistically rendered in thread. Using a meticulous approach, Ferris’ tiny, multi-colored stitches mimic Impressionist-style brush strokes that visually blend together and produce a fully-realized form.

Every finished embroidery is encased in a wood hoop, which doubles as both a frame and a way to honor the animal subjects. They appear regal and composed despite being wild animals. Although these types of creatures are a large part of Ferris’ work, she also takes on commissions–specifically, pet portraits. You can have your favorite canine, feline, or even hedgehog recreated in embroidery. All of Ferris’ embroidered creations are available through her Etsy shop.
