In this stunning series that blends landscape and self-portrait photography, Finnish artist Elina Brotherus documents herself facing away from the camera and gazing out towards the world. The scenes, which are both meditative and sad, investigate the strong relationship between a single human figure and the surrounding environment.

Brotherus explains, “In a way I provide the viewers with a blank screen, a surface on which to project their own feelings and desires. Most often my work deals with love and its side-effects; the absence or presence of it in its different forms.”
