NYC Theater with Incredibly Unique Platform

Rome-based architects David Vecchi and Emanuela Ortolani are proposing a new design for a New York City theater. The idea behind this project is to reignite the theatrical spirit that “Broadway” encapsulates. The inventive design places the playhouse high above on a sort of stage, ironically. The concept design present the structure with its own spotlights, appearing like a tiny city of lights on a pedestal within the city that never sleeps, seemingly rivaling the bright lights of Times Square.

In addition to serving as an entertainment venue, the design duo intend for the building to function as a multipurpose establishment, accommodating for businesses and persons looking for office and residential spaces. In their project statement, they note economic benefits suggesting that offering more functions for the property would maximize the value of the land. They go on to say, “Part of the proceeds, due to the sale or rental of the real estate units will also have the basic task of funding the theatrical activity as long as the entire structure will not become economically independent and therefore able to provide a genuinely free and really unconditional cultural activity.”
