World’s Best Dad Draws on Over 1,000 Sandwich Bags for Kids

Artist David LaFerriere’s kids must be constantly thrilled to open up their lunch boxes. After making the kids’ sandwiches, LaFerriere uses sharpie pens to draw a quick illustration on the outside of the plastic bag. He photographs his work, and the kids don’t see the artwork until they sit down at school to have their meal.

The graphic designer dad started out with simple black and white illustrations of a fish, a duck, or a slice of pie, and has since moved on to more detailed and colorful drawings that include things like a monster eating cereal and a ghost playing golf. LaFerriere enjoys the challenge of coming up with a new idea every day and he says, “I’ve been doing it for my kids since they were little. They love it, and nothing makes me happier than hearing their reaction at the end of the day.” To document his work even further, the kids bring the bags home at the end of the day and LaFerriere scans the artwork into a digital file that can be printed.
