For painter David Agenjo, a palette and a canvas are interchangeable. While he works on an older canvas, already covered in splotches of layered paints, the Madrid-based artist uses new canvases as palettes. His artistic cycle continues in this pattern of creating a new painting on a used canvas, while simultaneously preparing the next used canvas.
By using this unique technique, Agenjo practices a very innovative process of creation. Each new portrait is produced around the remains of an old palette. As a result, the paintings have a very distinctly textured surface. A number of Agenjo’s visionary works will be on display as part of a group showing entitled Body Beautiful at Porter / Contemporary Gallery in New York until February 18, 2012.
