Dancers on the Streets of Russia

When you’re walking along a busy street, it’s not so easy to figure out a person’s profession. Although, photographer Vitaly Sokolovsky’s photo series entitled Dance-Petersburg certainly makes it easier to pick the dancers out of a crowd. Similar to Jordan Matter’s Dancer’s Among Us project in New York City, Sokolovsky captures the acrobatic movements of dancers in plain clothing, performing everyday tasks.

The photographer, who is based in Russia, travels across the world to take pictures of professional dancers leaping and contorting their bodies amongst less flexible folk who often look at them in awe. The clear difference in Sokolovsky’s work is his varied locations. Though the photographer shoots in his native St. Petersburg, he also snaps shots across Europe and America.
