Intricately Rustic Designs Carved into Antique Farm Equipment

Sculptor Dan Rawlings has carved a name for himself into the art world with his eccentric and rustic hand cut sculptures. The UK-based artist makes use of a variety of antique tools and farm equipment as a foundation for his artwork, creating pieces that have an appealing contrast between the delicate images and the sturdy metal that they are cut into. The sheets of metal are cut with a plasma cutter, as Rawlings skillfully extracts quaint forest scenes and intricate designs from the rusted remains that he collects.

Rawlings chooses to “create images that remind people of the moments when everything seems possible and free; times when climbing a tree, or sitting admiring the way its branches twist and curl means nothing, but means everything.” His use of the recycled farm tools is deliberate, a reference to a time when life was simpler and the trials of the everyman were “fundamental and shared.” Rawlings’ eclectic artwork breathes new life and purpose into the array of found objects.

With his whimsical carvings, Rawlings hopes to continue to inspire people to slow down and savour the simple pleasures in life.
