The new Cronzy pen takes a tried and true drawing utensil and matches it with modern technology to realize every illustrator’s dream tool. The pen can create over 16 million CMYK ink colors in seconds, with each shade either selected through its Bluetooth-synced smartphone app or scanned from real-life surroundings. Users simply point the device at any object to capture its true tint, which can then be sketched straight onto any ordinary canvas, be it sketchbook or skin.
Each gadget comes in silver or black with a charger and sleek charging case, though the battery life lasts a full seven hours. It also includes two sets of ink cartridges, mixed internally by high-precision mechanisms and algorithms, and five interchangeable tips ranging from a thin nib to a thicker marker. The associated app has other cool functionalities, too, allowing users to save their frequently-scanned colors and even share their favorite shades with others.
The pen’s possibilities seem endless, providing the creative flexibility and precision of Photoshop color-matching via an ergonomic, hands-on device that fits in any artist’s pocket. It’s set to ship in spring 2017, but in the meantime, you can show your support on Indiegogo, where the LA-based design team is raising funds for continued development and production.
