Couples who love the art of stained glass can now get married in a wedding venue that’s completely enclosed in it. The Rainbow Chapel in Shanghai is a gorgeous space with floor-to-ceiling glass panels painted in a variety of vibrant and translucent colors. Located next to the Museum of Glass in G+ Park, this kaleidoscopic structure was designed by architecture firm Coordination Asia. Its unconventional style is meant to attract young, creative couples who want an alternative to more traditional venues.
The chapel’s multi-hued facade is made up of over 3,000 geometric shapes that use 65 different colors. Its 22-foot-high windows transition from warmer tones like red, orange, and yellow, down to cooler shades such as green, blue, purple, and pink. Because the panels are semi-transparent, they allow some light to pass through and bathe the white floors in beautiful, colorful reflections.
The 4,200 square-foot circular space is set within the confines of a squared platform and roof that overlooks a shallow pool of water. These two basic shapes are fundamental to Chinese symbolism and the building blocks of marriage. A circle demonstrates fullness and unity, while the square represents honesty and virtue.
