Imagine renting a bike, storing energy on it as you ride, and then receiving bus credit on a personal ID card based on how much energy you stored. Bikes could then be placed in a solar-powered bike rack, which would transfer the energy from the bike to the smart grid.
That’s is the concept behind Chiyu Chen’s Hybrid2 system. Through a fleet of rentable bicycles, kinetic energy is created when riders either pedal or brake. The stored energy would then be used to power the city’s hybrid electric buses.
