With artistic talents spanning illustration, digital art, design, and advertising, Singapore-based creative Elen Winata has an eclectic portfolio “held together by simple but thought provoking ideas.” For her recent project, Stamp : Cities, Winata has created a collection of playful postage stamp posters based on popular destinations around the world.
Featuring clean lines, simplistic forms, and bold colors, the stamps offer an illustrated look at a range of cultural sites. Each design features an iconic landmark—including New York City’s Empire State Building and London’s Tower Bridge—or other identifiable setting—like a boulangerie in Paris or a cozy cabin in Reykjavík—from the selected city. In addition to this clever scenery, the stamps also incorporate quirky and fitting figures, from King Kong to Mary Poppins.
The artist poetically designates the illustrated series as “a compilation of cities I’d love to visit, inspired by letters I’ll never send.” This fitting description speaks not only to the artist’s desire to travel, but also to her artistic creativity and colorful imagination.
