Artist Recreates Her Parents’ Home with German Chocolate

We’ve previously seen the many talents of LA-based artist and baker Christine McConnell in her multi-layered self-portrait, where she took on the role of photographer, model, costume and set designer, and stylist. This time, the artist chose a different route. Inspired by her parents’ house, McConnell took on the task of meticulously designing a completely edible replica of their home.

The foundation of the house is made out of layer upon layer of German chocolate cake. McConnell then covered the base with piped buttercream frosting and melted chocolate–no fondant necessary. She constructed the windows out of frosted sugar glass so that light could shine through from the interior and light up the house.

As reference, the artist includes photographs of the home circa 1900 with the original owner sitting on the front porch, as well as an oil painting she did herself, as well as the house decorated for Halloween and Christmas. Set in the darkness with yellow lights glowing throughout the home, the home definitely has a spooky presence about it!
