Many of us have heard the expressions “cool as a cucumber” or “easy as pie.” In this playful collection of food art, London-based designer Christine Kawasaki-Chan took those phrases to the next level, creating a series in which each food idiom comes to life right before our eyes. The artist created compositions that naturally blend her incredible lettering skills with a variety of delicious foods pairings.
Using basic items like bread, cucumbers, and pie crust as her unique canvas, Kawasaki-Chan produced perfectly scripted, edible letters. The first few words of the idioms are formed out of the toasted impressions on the surface of bread, the delicate curls of a cucumber peel, and the perfectly carved crusts of a baked pie. Viewers are left to complete the sentence on their own using the context clues and their knowledge of the English language. The artist’s clever word play is a gorgeous display of typography in the form of deliciously appealing snacks.
