After giving birth to her first child, marketing manager Ceylan Sahin Eker decided to add a dose of creativity to motherhood. Using her degrees in both graphic design and illustration, the artist produced a photo series featuring her adorable 9-month-old son Timur in witty onesies. More than just a fun little photo project for the beginning stages of the young boy’s life, Sahin Eker felt inspired to continue the project to document her son’s rapid growth, and to make the most use of his wardrobe–she didn’t want Timur’s clothes to go to waste when they soon became too small for him. “He changes every day and I don’t want to forget any moment,” the mom explained. “So this project gives me a chance to document his uncontrollable growth. Babies do grow freakishly fast.”
As for the title of the project, Happy Thursdays, the decided to release a new image each Thursday since that’s the day of the week that Timur entered the world. And, because this personal project turned out to be a significant commitment for the new mom, her husband Bediz has even joined in to lend a hand as art director. No matter what the next photo shoot may entail, though, these parents want Happy Thursdays to be fun for their son, so they like to incorporate props to ensure that he’s enjoying himself the whole time.
“My son is the reason why I want to wake up in the morning and be a better person,” Sahin Eker says. “I hope these photos can put a smile on people’s faces.”
